1.2 Biological and medical parasitology

Medicine –(human and veterinary) is oriented to application. Biology involves interpretation (hermeneutics) without any particular intension. Each of the two aspects follows its own concepts and requires its separate conclusive terminology.

The pathogen determines the course of the disease, viz the symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy and prevention, at the level of the individual and the population. The parasitosis follows the life cycle of the parasite, the features of which include the specifity of the host and the attacked organ (body liquids, cells), anatomical structure and systematic classification. Both fields overlap in epidemiology and the physiology of the parasite-host relationship, particularly in immunology.
